Dr. Jean-Francois Légaré

Currently Surgical Director of Cardiac Transplantation at the QEII Health Sciences Centre and Director of Research in the Division of Cardiac Surgery, Dr. Jean-Francois Légaré completed residency training in cardiac surgery at Dalhousie Medical School in 2002.

Following this, Dr. Légaré traveled to Leipzig, Germany for fellowship training in cardiac surgery, before joining the faculty at Dalhousie Medical School in late 2003.

His areas of expertise include: heart failure and transplantation, valvular heart surgery and outcomes research.

He has also established a laboratory to study the mechanisms of heart failure, with support from a Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation New Investigator Award, the Faculty of Medicine Clinical Research Scholar Award (additional funding pending) and recently the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Specifically he is studying the role of immune infiltration in the development of heart failure following ischemia.
