Most of our patients live in the Maritime provinces (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island), but some of our patients come from further away to see us. We see patients with a large number of conditions, including:
Marfan syndrome
Loeys-Dietz syndrome
Other genetic disorders associated with weakened blood vessels
Aortic aneurysm (enlarged aorta)
Tears (dissections) of the aorta and other blood vessels
Aneurysms of blood vessels other than the aorta
Bicuspid aortic valve
Fibromuscular dysplasia
A family history of any of the above (family screening)
Ehlers Danlos syndrome
It is important to bear in mind that aneurysms (enlarged blood vessels) often run in families. We are always happy to see individuals with a family history of aortic enlargement, aneurysms and tears of major blood vessels to check them for the same tendencies. These problems can usually be treated very effectively. Ignoring these problems can lead to blood vessel or aortic rupture and a risk of sudden death.
