Hospital staff, surgeons, community partners, sponsors, former patients and friends of the MHC came together at Sherwood Golf and Country Club for a fantastic day of golf, fun and fundraising in support of our innovative heart disease care and prevention models.

In total, our net proceeds for the day were over $19,000!

Bootcamps run in six-week cycles, with a week of rest inbetween, and it’s best to sign up for a set number of classes although drop-ins are always welcome.  YOU CAN JOIN OUR CLASSES AT ANY TIME AND WE’LL PRO-RATE THE CHARGE FOR YOU.  Not sure if bootcamp is for you? We welcome you to attend ANY of our ongoing classes for a FREE TRIAL SESSION! Despite having to reschedule our original date due to rain, our 2010 event went off beautifully on Sunday 17th October 2010 at Sherwood Golf and Country Club, Chester NS.  18 teams, made up of suppliers, sponsors, donors, community partners, physicians, patients and friends of the Maritime Heart Center enjoyed a wonderful, crisp fall day on Sherwood’s immaculate green, where we were well looked after by the club’s incredible staff.  A huge thank you to GM Mike Masters and his team for making the day so memorable.

A huge draw for this year’s tournament was an incredible hole-in-one prize presented by Freewheeling Adventures: a $10,000 adventure holiday!  Although no-one managed to sink that magic ball, you can bet that pulses where quickened when our teams got to hole number 17…  Thank you, Freewheeling!

Fuelling our golfers for the day were Starbucks Coffee (Halifax Professional Centre) with the morning java hit and a fantastic on-the-green BBQ courtesy of one of our favourite Halifax resturants George and Litos, who are becoming just as well known for their fabulous catering as their warm and cosy restaurant.  Our friends at The Armview Restaurant  gave our guests a taste of their excellent catering services with trays of delicious gourmet wraps and dips at the post-game reception.  We also want to extend a special thank-you to Subway restaurant in Burnside, who made us 130 sandwiches for our initial tournament date of Thursday 7th October

Our silent auction was greatly expanded this year and was a big hit with our guests!  Notable items that brought out some fierce bidding included a Samsung smartphone (courtesy of Telus / GBS Communications), a six-month membership to Palooka’s Gym (who also provided four three-month memberships to our top team!) and personal training sessions from Evolve Fitness.  You can see a full list of all our auction donors here.

CTV personality Tina Simpkin helped us wrap up our event by MCing our dinner presentation, which included guest speaker and former MHC surgical Gerry Boudreau, a former MHC surgical patient, and a fantatsic one-of-a-kind raffle draw: a night in a Rolls Royce Silver Phantom with personal chauffuer and box seats at Halifax Metro Centre (special thanks to owner Mickey MacDonald for this generous donation) followed by dinner for two at Onyx Restuarant and a night at the Lord Nelson Hotel!

Our biggest thank-you of all goes out to our GOLFERS and GUESTS.  We are so proud of this event and the support we receive every year is overwhelming.  We can’t wait to do it all again in 2011!

At time of writing the weather is looking OK for Sunday following heavy showers on Friday and Saturday.  40% POP with an expected rainfall of just 1mm should make for decent golfing conditions.  Click here for up-to-date weather conditions

 For your convenience, we have established a weather protocol for Sunday morning in  the event of rain:

1) We will make a final weather decision by 8am Sunday morning and contact you by telephone and email in the event of a cancellation.

2) Please also confirm the event before setting off by either:

* Calling Sherwood directly on 902-275-4956        OR

* Checking the MHC website—an update will appear online at 8am Sunday 17th October 2010

Conditions at Sherwood were simply dreadful, with over half of the holes flooded thanks to the overnight downpour.  A staff member almost overturned his cart on the slippery hills just after the scheduled start of 11am.  Not a good day for golf.
