We provide worldclass care to patients with cardiovascular disease, and are active advocates in primary prevention.

About the Classes

Most classes take place in the ample-sized gym hall of St. Andrew’s United Church, 6039 Coburg Road  in downtown Halifax… although in Summer and fall we run additional classes outdoors (see below).

We begin with a WARM UP – either running or jogging a few laps of the gym or perhaps using jump-ropes to skip on the spot.

The MAIN WORKOUT is usually circuit-based: we’ll set up a series of  ’stations’ that work different muscle groups and you’ll perform each excercise for a certain amount of time (30-90 seconds) before moving on to the next station.  You may find yourself doing push-ups, crunches, using the balance ball or bocce ball, skipping, lifting weights or just using your own body weight… the combinations are endless!

Variations of each exercise are given, so you can make it easier or harder depending on your comfort level

Core Workouts target your abdominals and include group exercises such as the ‘v-sit’ and ‘medicine ball toss’ and solo-work such as plank, leg raise and classic crunches.

We end with STRETCHES to loosen up your muscles.

NO TWO SESSIONS ARE THE SAME – BUT WE GUARANTEE YOU AN AWESOME FULL-BODY WORKOUT THAT WILL LEAVE YOU FEELING ENERGISED!

Outdoor classes take place during Spring, Summer and Fall and take place at Point Pleasant Park.  This is an enjoyable alternative to our indoor class and offers an endless variety of workout options!  We usually use the trails, alternating between jogging and circuit-style exercises as we make our way around the parkland.  At any time you may find yourself doing crunches by the water, walking backwards up the incline trails, doing push-ups on the park railings… no two classes are the same!
