We provide worldclass care to patients with cardiovascular disease, and are active advocates in primary prevention.

About Eat Your Heart Out, Halifax

Eat Your Heart Out, Halifax is more than just a cookbook.  It’s a testament to what can happen when different people from different arenas collaborate on an issue close to their hearts.

This is a book that raises critical funds for local heart disease prevention and care initiatives whilst at the same time celebrating our local food culture and showcasing our restaurant community.

The idea is the brainchild of Toronto-based project coordinator and publisher Wendy Walsh, who spearheaded a similar series of books in Vancouver, BC under the name of ‘Cook the Hood’.  The concept is simple – these are cookbooks with a difference, to make a difference.  Proceeds from book sales directly benefit local charitable initiatives.

Cook the Hood is now an established publishing house, and the Maritime Heart Center is thrilled to collaborate with them on this initiative – a first for Halifax.

How It Works

Local restaurants each contribute a ‘participation fee’ and a recipe.  In return, they receive two full-colour pages in the book and professional photography – which is provided free of charge by a team of talented local photographers.

This means that the publication cost of the book is covered – so 100% of sales proceeds from the initial print run go directly to the Maritime Heart Center!

Thanks to the generosity of our restaurants and photographers and the commitment of Cook the Hood Publishing, Eat Your Heart Out, Halifax stands to raise $30,000 for heart disease care and prevention in your community!

The books are also used as a platform to highlight the work of the benefiting charity – and in Eat Your Heart Out, Halifax you’ll find pages about heart-health, diet and fitness.

It’s a worthwhile fundraiser, a fantastic cookbook and a celebration of your local restaurant scene… so what are you waiting for?  Go ahead and EAT YOUR HEART OUT!
