Aortic surgery

The Maritime Heart Center has had a long standing interest in the surgery of aortic and vascular disease. The Maritime Heart Center brings together a multidisciplinary team of experienced aortic and vascular surgeons who provide a thorough evaluation including imaging techniques. Our centre uses a broad array of state of the art techniques to minimize the patient risk. In selected cases, an endovascular approach can be used in which aortic stents are deployed through limited incisions in the groin or abdomen to treat thoracic aortic aneurysms. This is done in collaboration with interventional radiology and vascular surgery colleagues. Emergency aneurysm and dissection surgery is offered routinely by our centre.

With a number of certified vascular surgeons in the group, the Maritime Heart Center has continued to serve patients with peripheral vascular and central vascular disease. Aortic replacement is performed for patients with aneurysm or dissection of the aorta. There is also a hybrid effort with the interventional radiologists and the vascular surgeons to provide to the patients who would benefit most endovascular stenting for their aneurysm or dissection disease.
