High-risk CABG and valve surgery

Patients with advanced heart failure who are found to have either coronary artery blockages or valvular heart disease are strongly considered for higher risk coronary artery bypass and/or valve surgery procedures. Surgeons in our group have a strong interest in providing surgery to patients who might benefit from these conventional operations.

In previous years these patients might have been denied the potential benefits of conventional surgery because of the high risk. However, with careful attention to patient selection and a multidisciplinary approach with dedicated cardiac anaesthesia and expert cardiac surgery, patients who had been previously felt to be too high risk to undergo potentially beneficial valve or coronary artery bypass surgery are routinely offered those procedures at our centre.
